AI² – Association Industrial AI

Accelerating Industrial AI in engineering, manufacturing, robotics & supply chain

AI² is the global association connecting industry, academia, and technology leaders to advance Industrial AI.

Our mission is to bring together experts in Industrial and Generative AI, provide a neutral space for collaboration, and share knowledge and best practices. We support the development of practical solutions that help organisations adopt AI at scale across engineering, manufacturing, and operations.

From practitioner network to European association

From practitioner network to European Industrial AI association

Since 2023, our community has brought together practitioners building and deploying AI across engineering, manufacturing, automation and operations. In 2025, that community became AI² - an independent association dedicated to standards, best practices and applied Industrial AI.

What we do

Our focus areas

  • Engineering

    Engineering — focus area

Application of AI in engineering, R&D, and product development. Focusing on use cases around the V-model and their strategic integration within product lifecycle management (PLM).

  • Manufacturing

    Manufacturing — focus area

Integrating AI-driven solutions to optimize manufacturing operations. Enhancing production efficiency, predictive maintenance, and quality control through advanced analytics and generative AI.

  • Robotics

    Robotics — focus area

Visual foundation models, reinforcement learning, and multimodal perception. Smarter automation, enhanced autonomy, and adaptive human-machine collaboration in complex industrial environments.

Expert groups

Meet our expert groups

Four expert groups are active today, each with named chairs and - where it exists - a current deliverable. They are practitioner institutions, not mailing lists.

Narrow the list by topic. You can select several; we show any group that matches at least one selected topic.

What AI² publishes

Expert groups produce reference material with named authors, a version, and a publication date - not only meeting notes. Open the GitHub repos to read, download, and co-develop.

  • Strategy & business models

    Industrial AI Maturity Model

    Draft v0.1 · 28 July 2026 · Open for co-development

    Dr. Tobias M. Guggenberger (AI²)

A 5 × 5 assessment matrix for AI readiness in manufacturing and process industries - data and sovereignty, algorithms, governance, organisation, and value - built for OT realities rather than generic enterprise AI.

  • Digital Reasoning Thread

DRT Loom - Synthetic Industrial Reasoning Environments

    v1 · August 2026 · Open source

    Digital Reasoning Thread expert group

A graph-grounded generator for reproducible synthetic industrial enterprises - records, knowledge graphs, documents, and benchmark questions from a single shared model - so agentic Industrial AI can be evaluated against exact ground truth.
